Dental Monitoring system remotely connects orthodontists with patients
If a patient with braces or an aligner has been fitted by an orthodontist or has worked to lighten their teeth otherwise, it is important that they follow his progress. It is possible due to a modern smartphone-based programme, without the patient What to expect when getting braces being forced to visit their clinic.
The Dental Monitoring device is a Paris-based organisation of the same name. Orthodontics that use it begin by giving a dental retractor and a smart phone receptor called the ScanBox, two pieces of hardware to take with them home.
As soon as the patient has to scan, they begin by exposing their teetes and putting the retractor in their mouths. The ScanBox, which is inserted on their desktop, is then fixed to the retractor magnetically.
Guided by audio signals in a supporting iOS / Android app, the patient moves the ScanBox back and forth and bends it up and down, taking a series of teeth smartphones. The images are downloaded to a server where they are processed by artificial intelligence algorithms.
In the case of detections of issues such as bad grooming or malfunctions, the orthodontist is told to make an appointment. When all goes as expected, though, the patient will have a visit to the clinic and the orthodontics will have more time in touch with other clients. The patient should only take about one minute every exam.
If problems such as poor hygiene or misalignments are detected, the orthodontist is notified so they can set up an appointment. Should everything be going according to plan, though, the patient is saved a visit to the clinic, and the orthodontist can spend more time with other clients. Each scan reportedly takes only about one minute for the patient to perform.
